I'm heading south for the weekend. Deep south. That southern part of Italy; hot, dry, sea-grit, wracked by earthquake and eruption, that Italians call the Mezzogiorno. The point where Europe is no longer entirely Europe, but also Africa. The Mezzogiorno is the furthermost part of Italy from Europe. I'm going to Sicily, the edge of the Mezzogiorno. But first, pictures from Rome on an evening run to visit the Pope.
Follow the colourful markers to casa the Pope.
Unfortunately, the Pope wasn't at the time of my visit.
Morning walk through Rome...
The artists, pencils ready to sketch Trevi Fountain.
Before I start painting, let me use my brush to clean my toes. Toe jam is oil based.
About the only person left in Rome this time of the year. The city abandoned, it's my kind of time to visit. No tourist or Romans.
Roman self-serve gas station.
